Postdoc Handbook

The College of Life Sciences Postdoc Association was established at the University of Dundee in 2005 and was one of the first organizations in the UK to be established for the benefit of research staff. It is run by Postdocs for Postdocs, so your participation and ideas are incredibly important!

The aims of the CLSPA are to:

  • be a voice for Postdocs in interactions with College management
  • encourage and assist in the career development of Postdocs
  • catalyse interactions between Postdocs in different disciplines
  • help new Postdocs with local and divisional orientation through a variety of events and activities
  • foster a culture of debate, open communication and information access
  • help with a large variety of issues relating to Postdoc life

The association also has a constitution.

What you need to know

  • We have a scheme in place that provides funding to Postdocs who wish to attend conferences they would otherwise not be able to attend - take a look at the Conference Support Scheme for more information.
  • We produce an annual Postdoc Handbook that contains a lot of advice and information on getting settled in Dundee, and is a useful tool for new and overseas postdocs as they start working in the College of Life Sciences. The 2009 College of Life Sciences Postdoctoral Handbook is available for download as a PDF file.
  • We provide a framework to help Postdocs achieve their full potential, to the benefit of the individual and the College. To find out more about the Postdoc Career Development Scheme, visit the Postdoc Careers page.
  • We run many social activities throughout the year, including pub quizzes, wine tastings, and an annual Ceilidh that is hosted jointly with the College of Life Sciences Postgrad Association, PiCLS. For more information and to find out what's happening, visit the News page.
  • We have a support network of support designed to help Postdocs with difficulties that prove impossible to resolve via the existing mentoring duties of PIs and Division heads - read about the Postdoc Support Group

You can contact us by sending an email to CLSPA-chair@dundee.ac.uk. Alternatively, please join us at our next CLSPA Committee meeting.
